Rajasthan High Court division bench upholds cancellation of the SI Recruitment Exam 2021

On 4 April 2026 a division bench of the Rajasthan High Court upheld the single-judge order of 28 August 2025 that had cancelled the Sub-Inspector (SI) Recruitment Exam 2021 over the paper leak. The recruitment had been notified on 3 February 2021 for 859 posts, and nearly 7.97 lakh candidates had applied. The exam was held from 13 to 15 September 2021.

Jaipur hosts first Regional (Western) Agriculture Conference of the Centre's new zonal series

On 7 April 2026 Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan attended the Western Regional Agriculture Conference in Jaipur, the first in a new series of region-wise conferences to improve Centre-State coordination. Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Goa and Rajasthan took part. He urged 100 per cent registration of farmers under the Farmer ID scheme; the next conferences were set for Lucknow and Bhubaneswar.

Union Cabinet approves 41-km Jaipur Metro Phase-2 (Prahladpura–Todi Mod) at Rs 13,037.66 crore

On 8 April 2026 the Union Cabinet approved Jaipur Metro Phase-2, a 41-km North-South corridor from Prahladpura to Todi Mod with 36 stations, at a cost of Rs 13,037.66 crore. It will be built by Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Limited (RMRCL), a 50:50 joint venture of the Centre and Rajasthan, by September 2031. It will link Sitapura Industrial Area, VKIA, Jaipur Airport, Tonk Road and SMS Hospital.

CCEA raises HPCL Rajasthan Refinery (Pachpadra) project cost from Rs 43,129 crore to Rs 79,459 crore

On 8 April 2026 the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved revising the cost of the HPCL Rajasthan Refinery Limited (HRRL) project from Rs 43,129 crore to Rs 79,459 crore, with Rs 8,962 crore more equity from HPCL (taking its total to Rs 19,600 crore). HRRL is a 9 MMTPA refinery-cum-petrochemical complex at Pachpadra (Balotra district), with 2.4 MMTPA petrochemical capacity. It is a joint venture of HPCL (74%) and the Rajasthan government (26%).

CM launches GRAM-2026 curtain-raiser in Jaipur; Kisan Kalyan raths to tour panchayats from 15 April

On 10 April 2026 Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma addressed the curtain-raiser of the Global Rajasthan Agritech Meet (GRAM) 2026, then planned for 23–25 May in Jaipur. Kisan Kalyan raths were to visit every gram panchayat from 15 April to spread word of farm schemes. The CM said Rajasthan ranks first in India in the production of millet (bajra), mustard, oilseeds, barley and guar.

World Bank approves USD 225 million for Rajasthan Highway Modernisation Project, India's first Step-Up Loan

On 10 April 2026 the World Bank's Board approved a USD 225 million IBRD loan for the Rajasthan Highway Modernisation Project. It will upgrade and maintain about 800 km of state highway corridors and is expected to benefit over 3 million people. It is the first Step-Up Loan (SuL) in India, with lower pricing in the early phase, and has a 35-year maturity with a 5-year grace period.

On Ambedkar Jayanti, CM announces 200 Ambedkar e-libraries and a residential coaching centre at Mundla

On 14 April 2026, the 135th birth anniversary of Dr B.R. Ambedkar, Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma announced 200 Ambedkar e-libraries in urban areas and a modern residential coaching centre at Ambedkar Peeth, Mundla (Jaipur), for Scheduled Caste youth preparing for competitive exams. He transferred Rs 1,363 crore by DBT to beneficiaries of pension schemes and the Palanhar Yojana, and launched an AI chatbot, 'Samadhan Saathi'.

Rajasthan Police marks 77th Foundation Day; CM launches Rajasthan Police Pensioners Portal

Rajasthan Police celebrated its 77th Foundation Day on 16 April 2026 at the Rajasthan Police Academy, Jaipur, with Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma as chief guest. He launched the Rajasthan Police Pensioners Portal, linked to the RajCop Citizen App, so retired personnel can get pension services online. He named cyber crime, organised mafia and drug trafficking as major challenges.

RPSC declares RAS 2024 final result a day after interviews; Barmer's Dinesh Bishnoi tops

On 18 April 2026 the Rajasthan Public Service Commission declared the final result of the RAS and Subordinate Services Combined Exam 2024, a day after interviews ended on 17 April. Dinesh Bishnoi of Barmer topped with 351.50 marks; Virendra Charan of Jaisalmer was second with 351 marks. The recruitment covered 1,096 posts (428 State Services and 668 Subordinate Services).

Fire at HPCL Rajasthan Refinery, Pachpadra, a day before PM's dedication; 21 April event postponed

On 20 April 2026 a fire broke out in the Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) of the HPCL Rajasthan Refinery at Pachpadra, Balotra district, a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi was to dedicate it to the nation. The Petroleum Ministry postponed the 21 April dedication; no loss of life was reported. The refinery-cum-petrochemical complex is a joint venture of HPCL (74%) and the Rajasthan government (26%).

Supreme Court upholds shifting of Delhi's A.N. Jha Deer Park deer to Mukundra Hills and Ramgarh Vishdhari

On 27 April 2026 a Supreme Court bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta upheld the relocation of spotted deer from the A.N. Jha Deer Park, Hauz Khas (Delhi), to Rajasthan's Mukundra Hills and Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserves. Up to 38 deer may stay in the park, subject to Central Zoo Authority approval. The Court asked the Environment Ministry to examine and implement national guidelines on wildlife translocation within six months.

Census 2027 begins: first phase opens on 1 April with online self-enumeration, India's first digital census

The first phase of Census 2027, the House Listing and Housing Census, began on 1 April 2026 with an online self-enumeration window, offered for the first time, in eight States/UTs. It is India's 16th census and the 8th since Independence, and the first to be done digitally; self-enumeration is available in 16 languages. Each State/UT holds a 30-day house-listing operation, preceded by 15 days of self-enumeration, between April and September 2026.

Parliament passes Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2026: 784 provisions in 79 Central Acts

The Rajya Sabha passed the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2026 on 2 April 2026, completing its passage through Parliament. It amends 784 provisions in 79 Central Acts handled by 23 ministries: 717 are decriminalised for ease of doing business and 67 are changed for ease of living. The same day Parliament also cleared the Central Armed Police Forces (General Administration) Bill, 2026.

Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill on women's reservation defeated in Lok Sabha: 298 for, 230 against

On 17 April 2026 the Lok Sabha defeated the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, 2026, which sought to speed up 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies. Of 528 members voting, 298 were in favour and 230 against, short of the 352 votes needed for a two-thirds majority. After the defeat the government withdrew the linked Delimitation Bill and Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill.

Ladakh gets five new districts: Nubra, Sham, Changthang, Zanskar and Drass; total rises to seven

On 27 April 2026 Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena approved five new districts: Nubra, Sham and Changthang in the Leh region, and Zanskar and Drass in the Kargil region. Ladakh now has seven districts instead of two (Leh and Kargil). The Union Home Ministry had given in-principle approval in August 2024.

Meghalaya ordinance makes Khasi and Garo official languages alongside English

On 27 April 2026 the Governor of Meghalaya promulgated the Meghalaya Official Languages Ordinance, 2026 under Article 213(1), making Khasi and Garo official languages of the State along with English. The ordinance repealed the Meghalaya State Language Act, 2005.

Vietnam's National Assembly elects Communist Party chief To Lam as State President for 2026–2031

On 7 April 2026 the 16th National Assembly of Vietnam unanimously elected Communist Party General Secretary To Lam as State President for the 2026–2031 term. He now holds both the top party post and the presidency. To Lam had earlier served as Minister of Public Security from 2016 to 2024.

Hungary election: Péter Magyar's Tisza wins 141 of 199 seats, ending Viktor Orbán's 16-year rule

In Hungary's parliamentary election on 12 April 2026, the Tisza Party led by Péter Magyar won 141 of the 199 seats, a two-thirds majority. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's Fidesz-KDNP fell to 52 seats; turnout was a record of about 79.6 per cent. Orbán had been in power since 2010.

UAE announces exit from OPEC and OPEC+ with effect from 1 May 2026, after joining in 1967

On 28 April 2026 the United Arab Emirates announced that it would leave OPEC and the wider OPEC+ alliance from 1 May 2026. The UAE (as the emirate of Abu Dhabi) had joined OPEC in 1967 and had the group's third-largest crude production capacity after Saudi Arabia and Iraq. OPEC was founded in 1960; OPEC+ was formed in 2016.

River Basin Management Scheme extended to 2030-31 with an outlay of Rs 2,183 crore

In April 2026 the Centre approved continuing the River Basin Management (RBM) Scheme for the 16th Finance Commission period, 2026-27 to 2030-31, with Rs 2,183 crore. The previous phase (2021-22 to 2025-26) had Rs 1,276 crore. The Ministry of Jal Shakti scheme supports basin-level water planning, with special focus on the Brahmaputra, Barak, Teesta and Indus basins.

RBI keeps repo rate unchanged at 5.25% with neutral stance in first MPC meeting of 2026-27

Cabinet approves Bharat Maritime Insurance Pool with a sovereign guarantee of Rs 12,980 crore

On 18 April 2026 the Union Cabinet approved the Bharat Maritime Insurance (BMI) Pool, backed by a sovereign guarantee of Rs 12,980 crore. Member insurers will cover hull and machinery, cargo, protection and indemnity (P&I) and war risks for Indian-flagged ships and vessels trading to or from India, with combined capacity of about Rs 950 crore. It aims to cut reliance on the International Group of P&I Clubs.

500 MWe Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor at Kalpakkam attains first criticality

The 500 MWe Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) at Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu, attained first criticality at 8:25 pm on 6 April 2026. Designed by IGCAR and built by BHAVINI, it uses uranium-plutonium mixed oxide (MOX) fuel and liquid sodium as coolant. It marks the second stage of India's three-stage nuclear power programme, a bridge to thorium-based reactors.

NASA's Artemis II crew splashes down after 10-day crewed flight around the Moon

Shekha Jheel Bird Sanctuary in Aligarh becomes India's 99th Ramsar site

On 22 April 2026 Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav announced that Shekha Jheel Bird Sanctuary in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, had been designated a Ramsar site. This took India's total to 99 and Uttar Pradesh's to 12. The wetland is a stopover on the Central Asian Flyway for migratory birds such as bar-headed geese and painted storks.

Sixth Project 17A stealth frigate 'Mahendragiri' delivered to the Indian Navy

Mahendragiri, the sixth Nilgiri-class (Project 17A) stealth frigate, was delivered to the Indian Navy at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders, Mumbai, on 30 April 2026. It is the fourth P17A ship built by MDL. Sawan Barwal runs 2:11:58 at Rotterdam to break India's 48-year-old marathon record

In April 2026 Sawan Barwal clocked 2 hours 11 minutes 58 seconds at the Rotterdam Marathon in the Netherlands on his marathon debut, finishing 20th in the elite race. He broke the national record of 2:12:00 set by Shivnath Singh in 1978, the longest-standing national record in Indian athletics.

First Khelo India Tribal Games end in Chhattisgarh; Karnataka top with 23 gold medals

Justice Lisa Gill sworn in as the first woman Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court

On 25 April 2026 Governor S. Abdul Nazeer administered the oath to Justice Lisa Gill as Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court at Lok Bhavan, Vijayawada. SIPRI: India becomes world's 5th-largest military spender in 2025 at USD 92.1 billion

SIPRI's report on world military expenditure, released on 27 April 2026, put global spending in 2025 at a record USD 2,887 billion, the 11th straight yearly rise.
