Census 2027: Rajasthan opens online self-enumeration; Governor Haribhau Bagde and CM fill their forms
On 1 May 2026 Rajasthan opened the online self-enumeration window for the first phase of Census 2027. Governor Haribhau Bagde and Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma marked the launch by filling their own self-enumeration forms. The window ran till 15 May, and door-to-door house-listing by enumerators began on 16 May, with 33 questions about houses and household facilities.

GRAM-2026 agritech meet in Jaipur postponed after PM's appeal to save fuel
On 15 May 2026 Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma postponed the Global Rajasthan Agritech Meet (GRAM-2026), which was to be held at the Jaipur Exhibition and Convention Centre (JECC) from 23 to 25 May. Over 75,000 farmers were expected. The decision followed the Prime Minister's appeal to use petrol, diesel and LPG with restraint, and the state also cut down large official events.

On 15 May 2026 Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav virtually laid foundation stones and dedicated projects worth over Rs 400 crore. They relate to semiconductors, railways and sewage treatment plants. The Chief Minister recalled that Rajasthan brought its first Semiconductor Policy in March 2026.

Rajasthan observes its first state-level Godawan Diwas (Great Indian Bustard Day) on 21 May
On 21 May 2026 Rajasthan observed its first state-level Godawan Diwas to raise awareness about the Great Indian Bustard, the critically endangered state bird. Rajasthan High Court orders panchayat and urban local body elections by 31 July 2026

Oil India finds new natural gas in Sanu Formation of Dandewala field, Jaisalmer
On 23 May 2026 Oil India Limited announced a new natural gas discovery in the Dandewala field of Jaisalmer district, with gas flowing for the first time from the Sanu Formation. The new zone is producing about 25,000 standard cubic metres of gas per day. Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri called it a boost to India's energy self-reliance.

On 13 May 2026 the Union Cabinet approved higher Minimum Support Prices for 14 kharif crops for marketing season 2026-27. The biggest rise was for sunflower seed (Rs 622 per quintal), followed by cotton (Rs 557). MSP for Grade A paddy was fixed at Rs 2,461 and for bajra at Rs 2,900 per quintal. The expected payout to farmers is about Rs 2.6 lakh crore.

On 13 May 2026 the Union Cabinet approved a Scheme for Promotion of Surface Coal and Lignite Gasification Projects with an outlay of Rs 37,500 crore. It aims to gasify about 75 million tonnes of coal and lignite to make syngas and downstream products. The same meeting approved a 134-km semi-high-speed rail corridor linking Dholera with Ahmedabad at a cost of Rs 20,667 crore.

On 18 May 2026 Union Minister of Development of North Eastern Region Jyotiraditya Scindia launched the Rs 175 crore 'Coffees of Nagaland' Mission, a cluster-based coffee value chain mission. Pilot clusters are Tuophema village (Kohima district) for Arabica and Ghotovi village (Niuland district) for Robusta. It will promote organic certification, GI tagging and traceability.
RBI approves record surplus transfer of about Rs 2.86 lakh crore to the Centre for 2025-26
On 22 May 2026 the 623rd meeting of the RBI Central Board, chaired by Governor Sanjay Malhotra, approved a record surplus transfer of about Rs 2.86 lakh crore to the Central Government for 2025-26. This is above the previous record of Rs 2.69 lakh crore for 2024-25. The board kept the Contingent Risk Buffer at 6.5% of the RBI balance sheet.
Advanced Agni missile with MIRV system flight-tested from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island
On 8 May 2026 India carried out a successful flight-trial of an Advanced Agni missile with a Multiple Independently Targeted Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) system from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha. Its multiple payloads hit different targets spread over a large area in the Indian Ocean Region. The missile was developed by DRDO laboratories with Indian industry.

On 9 May 2026 DRDO's Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL) ran its Actively Cooled Full Scale Scramjet Combustor for over 1,200 seconds at the Scramjet Connect Pipe Test facility in Hyderabad. The earlier test in January 2026 had run for over 700 seconds. It used an indigenous liquid hydrocarbon endothermic fuel and is key to hypersonic cruise missiles.
Foundation laid for AMCA integration and flight-testing facility at Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh
On 15 May 2026 Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation of a facility for the fifth-generation Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) at Puttaparthi, Sri Sathya Sai district.
